Duties on Land Values - Nantwich, Cheshire in 1910
Notes:
- Transcriptions may contain errors. Handwriting sometimes hard to read. Always check original documents.
- The survey was used as a working document. Orginal survey was done c1910, but later amendments have been added
(sometimes in red). A lot of amendments were done around 1914. Where two occupiers are shown,
the second one is shown as "now...".
- The recorder would often put a full address for the owner on the first entry, followed by just the name for
subsequent entries.
- The recorders don't systematically go down one street at a time, but may go down side streets as they get to
them. The number of each property is not always given, but can often be guessed at ny comparing with other
records (especially the 1911 census).
- The numbers refer to the order in which they were done. Sometimes some mumbers are missing. Occasionally
they are not in numerical order in the books (suggesting they may have missed one or two properties and
then gone back).
- The spreadsheet can be searched by road, however it's often best to look at the records in numerical
order - as adjacent entries in different sheets may give clues as to precise locations of properties.
- When searching, it may pay to use just intials for names as recorders are not consistent how they enter
text - eg one entry may have Joseph Chesters and another Jos Chesters.
- There are far more notes for some properties than are shown. It's often worth looking at the original
records for the larger businesses (factories, pubs, tanneries etc.).
- Street numbers may not be the same as current day. Hospital Street numbers differ from 1911 census
